Following its official ground breaking ceremony back in October, which was attended by Lord Mayor Robert Doyle along with Planning Minister Richard Wynne and Cbus Property CEO Adrian Pozzo, construction has formally begun at the future site of the Collins Arch at 447 Collins Street in central Melbourne

Reduced seven months ago by a local planning tribunal, the Collins Arch will eventually stand at 142 metres spread across 39 storeys, the development's conjoined towers to contain a mix of residential, office, and hotel space with the shared sky bridge and capstone to hold the building's various amenities. With a projected cost of $1.3 billion AUD, the mixed-use development will redefine the Yarra Riverfront as the so-called 'Pantscraper' becomes a standout feature of the Melbourne skyline.

Once complete, the mixed-use development will bring a total of 202 luxury apartments, 204 hotel suites, and 49,000 square metres of office space, all of which will be distributed and compartmentalized throughout the two conjoined towers. A transformative project for central Melbourne, the Collins Arch will be a welcome addition to the local skyline and cityscape upon its completion in 2019, part of the city's ongoing urban redevelopment.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
