In the ten months since our last update, progress has been moving along well at the site of the Independent. The 58-storey residential tower is set to become Austin's tallest, and a series of new renderings offer a more in-depth look at how the structure will appear upon completion in 2018. Created with a much higher level of detail, the latest renderings take the viewer inside the private and public spaces available within the tower, offering a comprehensive preview of the Independent for buyers and interested parties alike.
Designed by Rhode Partners for Aspen Heights, the Independent will be Austin's tallest tower, with 370 residences spread across 58 floors. Known locally as the 'Jenga Tower' for its iconic shifted-block design, the new structure will be a standout piece amid the Austin skyline, offering a large injection of visual interest due to its unusual shape and configuration.
While the newly released renderings sharpen the details known about the tower's exterior, it is the vast array of interior views that give the best clues as to the overall layout and design of the tower. Viewed above, the Indie Lobby will feature concrete and stone, creating an almost industrial atmosphere, while the notably more sumptuous 34th-storey Owner's Club viewed below will continue this theme while adding designer light fixtures and a full-service bar.
Moving on to the club room, the public amenity space on the ninth floor will take on a much more relaxed feel, thanks in large part to the use of hardwood flooring and the addition of plush couches and chairs, which together with entertainment elements, such as a large tv and pool table, will help make this a family-friendly space. Keeping with this theme, the club room will also feature a deck with dog lounge and green space, adjacent to a children's activity room and an infinity-edge heated pool.
Meanwhile, the tower's 370 private suites will be outfitted with quartz countertops, wide-plank hardwood flooring, and marble bathrooms, with stunning city views provided by floor-to-ceiling windows. Adding to the visual drama, more than one half of all units will be corner suites, thanks to the building's unusual composition.
Once complete, the Independent will sit at the corner of West Third Street and West Avenue at the centre of the desirable Seaholm District, placing residents within the heart of downtown Austin and walking distance to the many performance halls and clubs that make the city famous around the world for its prodigious music scene.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
