Located just five minutes outside of Macau, a proposed mega-development by Aedas known as Novotown will see the construction of a massive mixed-use complex featuring plenty of retail, dining, and entertainment options, supported by the inclusion of two indoor amusement parks, a hotel, and office tower. Arranged as an open palm, the development is reportedly meant to represent Chinese culture with a reference to the nation's ability to grasp the past, present, and future.

Built around what will be known as the Heart of China Garden, the various components of Novotown will be centred around an outdoor courtyard featuring multiple terraces, ample green space, numerous patios, and a man-made canal, the combination of which will be an impressive public space.

Contained in what one might consider the meat of the palm, the 120,000-square-foot cultural and entertainment complex will be home to a shopping mall, multi-purpose hall, wedding pavilion, health and beauty spa, and two indoor attractions including the Lionsgate Entertainment World and the National Geographic Ultimate Explorer. At the other end of Novotown, the three fingers will be comprised of a 490-room Hengqin Hyatt Regency Hotel, a 52,000-square-foot office tower, and a cultural workshop tower.

Once complete, Novotown will be a central component of a much larger plan to transform the bulk of Hengqin Island from a suburb of Macau to a city unto itself.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
