Property developer and construction company Veidekke is partnering with Utopia Arkitekter to bring a 17-storey highrise to the Stockholm borough of Kungsholmen, the first project in a broader redevelopment scheme undertaken by the two groups. The team proposes a great concentration of housing around key transportation hubs — adopting the approach to land use laid out for developers by the City — starting with their Bolinders Plan development.

Named after the former owner of an area workshop, the tower would be primarily residential with an arrangement of non-housing uses on the ground floor. The height of the building is largely in line with the surrounding structures, particularly the Kungsklippan tower blocks. The design includes multiple terraces, accessible to residents on the upper floors, while the existing square would be reinterpreted as a lively piazza.

The Kaplansgatan turnaround point, which has been enlarged in recent years, impacts the design of the building's base. It is pulled back slightly to accommodate local traffic and vehicles entering the three-storey automatic parking garage. Several recesses and cantilevered ledges ensure a disparate assemblage of floor plate sizes while producing outdoor spaces for private units.
