A fan favourite among lovers of the work of the late great Zaha Hadid, One Thousand Museum, currently under construction in downtown Miami, has been capturing the imaginations of architecture enthusiasts and passersby alike ever since construction began back in 2015. The soon-to-be 62-storey tower's signature exoskeleton is a standout feature of the new development and a topic of much conversation. Begun in 2015, One Thousand Museum replaced a former BP service station, which appeared to date back to the 1960s as the gas station's retro aesthetic was a prime example of Miami Modern (MiMo) architecture, a homegrown architectural style that once dominated the local landscape.
Long since demolished, the former gas station has made way for the construction of the impressive new tower, which will soon be home to a collection of 83 ultra-luxury condo units with floor plans ranging anywhere from 4,600-9,900 square feet and ceiling heights from 10-20 feet. Set to include a full complement of equally luxurious amenity spaces, including not one, but two pools, a spa, sky lounge, and full-service bar, One Thousand Museum will soon become a premier address within the heart of downtown Miami. Viewed below in an image captured in late October, the same view today reveals a strikingly different scene, with the sinuous rise of the iconic new tower now dominating the local streetscape and skyline.
Once complete, One Thousand Museum will be a welcome addition to the Miami skyline, part of the ongoing urban transformation that has been taking place across much of the city centre during the last decade. A legacy project for the late Zaha Hadid, One Thousand Museum will be the last of its kind to grace the city, the ever-changing Miami skyline to benefit from its presence for years to come.
