Having partially topped off in late 2016, the one-million-square-foot Kirby Collection, a three-building mixed-use development currently well underway in suburban Houston, is beginning to take shape. Cladding is progressing at the base of the structure, and the complex is set for completion by year's end. Comprised of a green-roofed low-rise parking garage and 65,000 square foot retail space bookended to the north by a 22-storey, 200-unit luxury condo building, and to the south by a 13-storey, 210,000-square-foot office tower, the KEATING-designed, Thor Equities-built Kirby Collection is set to transform an entire block of suburban Houston.

Taking up an entire city block, The Kirby Collection is by far one of the largest developments in an area that is defined by a mix of low-rise office blocks, commercial properties, and single-family homes. Since November, progress has been moving along steadily, with cladding installation now well underway at the site of the office tower. Below, as seen from street level, the topped-off office tower is beginning to resemble the finished product, its glass curtain wall having now climbed the first few storeys.

Built on the site of a former mid-century adult education and training facility, The Kirby Collection will inject a considerable degree of new life into the area. Viewed below, the massive mixed-use development's scope and urban impact can be further appreciated.

Once complete, the Kirby Collection will be a welcome addition to Upper Kirby, a suburban neighbourhood that is connected to downtown via I-69. The new development is in close proximity to Rice University, the Houston Zoo, and the currently under-construction Texas Medical Center.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
