The South Park neighbourhood in Downtown Los Angeles would receive three towering skyscrapers under a scheme developed by Century City and designed by world-renowned architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and local practice P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S. The project at Olympic Boulevard and Harbor Freeway, within walking distance of the Staples Center, is slated to include 1,367 residential units, 40,000 square feet of retail space, and 115,000 square feet of open space.
The towers will rise 65, 53, and 43 storeys into the air, replacing an existing surface parking lot spread across the 3.25-acre property. The development has been announced in the midst of exciting times for the neighbourhood, which is experiencing major upward growth. Olympia will occupy a site between the vibrant L.A. Live entertainment mecca and the Gensler-designed Metropolis development, which features a comparable mixed-use program. The Circa and Oceanwide Plaza projects are two incoming complexes also taking shape. The project has been designed to cater to the city's creative class, which has seen its image boosted in the past few years with new cultural implants like the Broad Museum.
Rectilinear in form, the three towers are heavily glazed and feature a number of amenity spaces scattered throughout the volume. The irregularity of the balconies and floor plates creates a staggered effect represented in the recently released batch of renderings. At this time, it's unclear whether the unit composition will be primarily condominiums or rentals. City Century anticipates a four-year construction timeline to see the development through to completion.
