Set to replace the former Pacific Point apartment complex situated along a prime piece of Gold Coast waterfront within Surfers Paradise, plans by local developer Aquis Australia for a Woods Bagot-designed, 580-room, 48-storey, luxury beachfront hotel are currently pending approval. The project, if accepted by City Council, will become part of the ongoing transformation of the local waterfront.

Located at 3464-3466 Main Beach Parade, Surfers Paradise, along the Gold Coast waterfront less than an hour's drive from Brisbane, the proposed hotel development would breathe new life into this stretch of the local coastline, which is in the midst of heavy transition and redevelopment.

Projected to capture an elusive 6-star rating, the $440 million (AUD) ultra-luxury hotel will feature a mix of top-quality guest amenity spaces and dining options. The rooms themselves will be outfitted with top-tier finishes and furnishings, not to mention a breathtaking view of the Coral Sea, home to exotic wildlife and some of the best surfing Australia has to offer.

Designed by internationally acclaimed Australian firm Woods Bagot, the facade will feature a smooth curved glass exterior. The wedge-shaped tower will provide the majority of guests with a view of the ocean, and the signature lobby space will be graced by a $2.5 million art installation that will help set the tone for the rest of the structure.

If approved, the luxury hotel will be among the first of its kind in Australia. Its anticipated 6-star rating places it among an elite group of ultra-luxury hotel developments found across the globe. Pending approval from City Council, construction would begin in early 2018, thus likely pushing its opening to 2020, leaving plenty of time for design tweaks between now and then.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
