Since construction began last spring, progress at the site of 801 South Financial, a 496-unit rental tower designed by Pappageorge Haymes Partners for Wood Partners, LLC in Chicago's long-overlooked South Loop has been moving along nicely. The soon-to-be 33-storey, 354-foot structure is now roughly halfway to the top. Just a few blocks south of The Loop, the transformation of a former surface lot into a home for approximately 750 new residents will be a welcome boost to the area. South Loop has recently become a hotbed of activity, as new developments continue to rise.

801 South Financial will soon join a growing collection of highrise developments that have sprouted up in the area over the last few years. The close proximity to transit and downtown Chicago will surely attract renters to this property, as will the attached three-storey parking garage with space for 348 cars. Doubling as an outdoor terrace, pool deck, and amenity space, renderings of the parking garage reveal plans to make the best of the utilitarian addition.

While there are still several months to go before the structure tops off, with completion set for 2018, recent images from the site reveal the look of the glass cladding that will eventually cover the bulk of the tower. Once painted white, the tower's concrete skin will take on a modern, minimalist appearance. The retention of a small portion of green space adjacent to the parking garage will provide residents and locals alike with a public space to relax and enjoy the quickly evolving neighbourhood.
