In anticipation of the project’s fall 2017 opening, 8 East Huron (alternatively known as CA State/Huron and 2 East Huron) is entering its final stages of construction in Chicago’s thriving Near North Side neighbourhood.

Located at the intersection of State and Huron Streets, 8 East Huron will provide a mix of upscale urban amenities on site while also boasting world-class hotel accommodations, luxurious restaurants, museums, boutique retailers, and access to the CTA Red Line subway just steps outside residents' doors.

Developed in partnership by CA Ventures with Harlem Irving Companies and designed by architectural firm Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, the 170,000-square-foot, 26-storey, mixed-use apartment building will contribute a mix of 102 luxurious one- and two-bedroom suites, studios, and three-bedroom luxury units to the Near North Side area. In addition, the LEED Certified building will include 2,756 square feet of ground-level retail space accessible from State Street.

8 East Huron will serve residents with upscale amenities on site, providing all the comforts of a luxury hotel experience without ever leaving home. Boasting ground level retail, an 8,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor amenity space, as well as a fitness centre, business centre, hospitality room, and gorgeously designed green roof with a sundeck and infinity-edge pool, the development will surely become a desirable destination for young urban professionals who want to be within walking distance of Chicago’s bustling downtown core.

Recent construction photos from our Forum demonstrate how 8 East Huron is taking shape. With the building’s narrow rectangular floor plates in place, the building’s curtain wall glazing now rises midway to the building’s highest floors, providing a glistening blue veneer that accentuates the building’s 360-degree view of the city’s downtown core. While the building’s elegant marble ground-level exterior has yet to be installed, construction crews continue to raise the building’s floors to its 290-foot peak.

As seen below, 8 East Huron replaced two three-storey Italianate style townhouses — 4 and 8 East Huron — which were demolished when work began on the site in early 2016. Constructed in 1889, both buildings were designated as heritage buildings under the Chicago Historic Resources Survey (AHRS) for containing “significant architectural or historical features.” The Consulate General of Ukraine building at 10 East Huron, located directly to the right of 8 East Huron, will remain. It's important to note that 4 and 8 East Huron were two of many heritage sites that have been levelled as Chicago’s oldest historical area, Near North Side, has redeveloped into one of the most affluent — and in- demand — parts of the city.
