While local fast food lovers bemoan the loss of the long-standing Burger King at the corner of SW 8th Street and S Miami Avenue in the heart of the rapidly changing Brickell district of downtown Miami, a whopper of a different kind is set to take its place. The proposed 76-storey 18 residential tower designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates, Inc. for Karam Group and Claro Development is set to become the latest in a string of highrise projects now under construction in the area.
Located immediately south of downtown Miami, the Brickell district has witnessed an explosion of growth over the last several years. The urban transformation now underway has dramatically changed the local landscape, and the popular burger chain is one of the last suburban holdouts in the rapidly urbanizing neighbourhood.
Set to rise above a multi-storey, 66,618-square-foot retail space and 464-spot parking garage, the 76-storey residential tower will contain 392 condo units. The development will also be just a block away from an LRT stop for those who prefer to take public transit. The tower will be set back from the street, with a sizeable portion of the podium's rooftop space serving as an outdoor amenity space, complete with a pool, lounge area, and greenery.
Inspired by the natural growth of a flower, 18's balconies gradually increase in size towards the top of the tower as do leaves seeking sunlight, with the penthouse suites equated to a flower in full bloom. Undulating upwards toward the clear blue Miami sky, 18's future residents will be treated to ample sunlight and panoramic skyline and ocean views. If built as proposed, 18 will be a welcome addition to the area, as Brickell is fast becoming a bustling urban hub, a place to live, work, and play.
