The Inner London borough of Islington has a new tallest building. Designed by Squire and Partners and delivered by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for Mount Anvil with Clarion Housing, the 117-metre-tall Lexicon tower spreads more than 300 apartments over a 36-storey frame.

The completed development is located on the west side of City Road Basin, part of Regent's Canal, and includes a pair of low-rise apartment buildings adjacent to a landscaped public courtyard. Approved by Islington in 2006, the project sets aside 35 percent of its residences as affordable units. On the ground, public spaces are animated with retail and restaurant uses that take full advantage of the building's canalside location.

The tower employs a curtain wall facade that permits unobstructed views over the city. The upper levels of the building boast full-width terraces and an enormous five-storey penthouse measuring 405 square metres. The low-rise buildings that transition the tower to its shorter neighbours are also gifted with view-laden balconies.

Mount Anvil also recently completed their Dollar Bay project overlooking the commercial district of Canary Wharf. The 115-unit development features a rippled facade and a contemporary glass sheathing courtesy of architect SimpsonHaugh and Partners.
