A previously approved scheme for a 40-storey stacked tower in the centre of London's skyscraper cluster has been reworked by architect WilkinsonEyre and developers Mitsubishi Estate London and Stanhope. Plans for the 185-metre-tall tower at 150 Leadenhall have now grown in size, with the proponents now seeking a 220-metre skyscraper and an increase in lettable office space from 41,806 to 52,954 square metres.

The overall design intent — from the stepped profile to the sharp glazing system — has remained the same. What's changed is the height, with the stacked boxes now rising to 10, 40, and 50 storeys. The alteration follows the approval of several proposed skyscrapers in the immediate vicinity, including 1 Undershaft, 22 Bishopsgate, and 1 Leadenhall.

The commercial office tower will include retail space at the ground and mezzanine levels and a public viewing gallery up top. Renderings show just how close the building would be to its taller neighbours, specifically the under-construction 22 Bishopsgate and the Rogers Stirk Harbour-designed Leadenhall Building, commonly called the 'Cheesegrater.' The latest design is being put to the public before being assessed by the City.
