The owner of the National Hockey League's Winnipeg Jets continues the dramatic transformation of a downtown parcel of land, which is set to become home to a mixed-use district of four towers in the years ahead. Similar in style and ambition to Edmonton's game-changing ICE District, True North Square significantly expands the Prairie city's entertainment options, while providing a contemporary urban home for a canvas of residences, flexible office space, hotel rooms, and retail.

Designed by Perkins + Will with Architecture 49 for True North Sports and Entertainment Limited and James Richardson & Sons, the development has been touted as a major catalyst for the rejuvenation of downtown Winnipeg, the capital and largest city in the Canadian province of Manitoba. With a large outdoor civic plaza at its centre, the project's highrise components are represented by four distinctly designed towers.

The first parcel of land along Graham Avenue will include the 200,000-square-foot public plaza, which is to be surrounded by a 17-storey, 365,000-square-foot office tower and a 145-unit residential tower, two levels of retail packed into the podium, and two underground levels of parking. The third and fourth towers — a 275-key, five-star hotel and a 130-unit condominium — will rise on parcel two.

The development has completed excavation and shoring work for the first phase, with a webcam posted on the official website to provide users with an updated look at the construction progress. The signature curve of the floor plates is just now beginning to reveal itself as the building begins its skyward journey. Completion of the first tower is currently scheduled for July 2018, according to construction contractor PCL. The second phase of the project, which is being developed by Northland Properties of Vancouver, will likely begin work in early 2018.
