A construction contract worth Dh1.46 billion has been awarded to Arabtec, who will build the highly anticipated UNStudio-designed Al Wasl Tower in Dubai. Developed by Wasl Asset Management along the busy Sheikh Zayed Road, the mixed-use skyscraper will stand 300 metres above the ground, just clinching the recognized marker for supertall status.

It was announced earlier this month that Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group would manage the building's luxury hotel and serviced residences. The downtown hotel will contain 257 guestrooms, suites and apartments spanning floors 16 to 38. The interior will reflect the local culture while incorporating elements representing Mandarin Oriental's Asian heritage. A number of bars and restaurants, including one placed on the rooftop, will augment an extensive array of banqueting and meeting spaces.

The upper floors of the 63-storey tower will be occupied by 144 residences, which will enjoy their own private access and an exclusive resident's lounge. A two-storey spa facility with 12 private treatment rooms, a fitness centre, and an outdoor swimming pool set within a garden terrace will complete the vertical village.
