Hong Kong-based architectural group 10 Design has unveiled a master plan for a three-kilometre slice of the Egyptian North Coast that aims to leverage the unique topography of the setting to lure international travellers. The Jefaira Seafront development, to be launched by INERTIA Properties, will transform 550 hectares of Mediterranean coastline into an integrated residential and tourist community.

The goal of the project is to create a vibrant urban environment boasting a network of public areas that celebrate the Egyptian culture and its Mediterranean context, said 10 Design in a press release. The plan would consist of 10,000 to 12,000 residential units supported by a range of community facilities, including a sports academy, swimming pools, and a health and wellness centre.

"In order to create a truly sustainable development, a wide range of public amenity areas are provided with strong interconnections; these amenities are clearly defined and organized around outdoor spaces which are activated by programs and functions," said Gordon Affleck, Design Partner at 10 Design.

The development would also host a surfeit of promenade cafes, restaurants, retail spaces, and hotels spread among a planned marina. The proposal carves out a location for a large convention centre, which would serve as a magnet for major events.
