Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary architecture studio Lead 8 has presented a mixed-use masterplan to the Prime Minister of Malaysia for a 40-hectare site in the IT hub of Cyberjaya. The firm recently participated in a design competition for the transit-oriented scheme, which is being spearheaded by real estate developer Setia Haruman.

"Cyberjaya North is looking to bring the city's high-tech workforce and smart, urban living together, and our masterplan creates a framework for these programs to thrive in a vibrant mixed-use development," said Simon Chua, Co Founder & Executive Director of Lead 8. "The transformation of Cyberjaya North into a new dynamic community hub will bring major opportunities for a diversity of retail, office, education, culture and active living offers that currently don’t exist in the city."

Comprised of six plots located between Kuala Lumpur's city centre and the international airport, the project will be directly accessible from the Putrajaya-Cyberjaya Expressway and a future mass rapid transit (MRT) station. Lead 8's plan for the site takes advantage of the topography and builds an active system of elevated streets. The result is a blossoming network of parks, plazas, cultural venues and retail villages.

A package of recently released renderings show a number of towers strategically arranged around the site. Distinct zones that focus on lifestyle and leisure, enterprise and start-ups, active community, knowledge and research, and eco-living will each feature a landmark building or space that serves as the nucleus, with shaded pedestrian and cycling connections to the MRT station.

The project is still going through the conceptual stage and moving towards feasibility. If built, it would enhance the international clout of Cyberjaya, the self-professed Silicon Valley of Malaysia, which held its opening ceremony in 1997.
