The Office for Metropolitan Architecture will make its debut in Boston with a partnership by WS Development producing a mixed-use commercial project. Sited at 88 Seaport Boulevard in the city's evolving Seaport neighbourhood, plans for the 18-storey project call for 425,000 square feet of office space, approximately 60,000 square feet of retail on the first two floors, and 5,000 square feet of civic/cultural use.

"We are committed to bringing world-class architecture to Boston's Seaport — architecture that will stand the test of time," said Yanni Tsipis, Senior Vice President of Seaport at WS Development. "Together with the brilliant team at OMA, we will create a unique urban environment that advances Boston's innovation economy and celebrates great urban design."

The design is conceived by OMA Partner Shohei Shigematsu, who has forged a reputation for progressive design in the Americas for over a decade. The building is visually divided into two volumes, "creating distinct responses for each urban scale of old and new." A substantial exterior terrace fills the crevice created by this tear in the facade, with an additional garden on the roof.

Oriented towards the water and Fan Pier Green, the floor-to-ceiling glass maximizes outward and inward views. The development timeline puts construction starting in 2018 and completion two years later, joining an increasingly vibrant collection of residences, offices, shops, hotels, restaurants, and open spaces.
