New images highlight some of the thrills that visitors to Miami's "vertical entertainment centre" can expect to enjoy when the 1,000-foot SkyRise Miami — of no relation to our website — opens to the public. Designed by Arquitectonica, the skyscraper's sinuous shape permits a range of vertiginous activities, including a 462-foot bungee drop called the "Sky Plunge" and an exterior system of rotating pods dubbed the "Sky Way."

The project first grabbed Miami's attention in 2013, when Berkowitz Development Group proposed what would become the city's tallest tower. Since then, a surfeit of flamboyant renderings have served to drive hype and tide the public over until the commencement of vertical construction.

Essentially performing the role of a mini amusement park, SkyRise Miami will feature a number of adrenaline-pumping activities, in addition to more traditional building uses on the ground. Among the defining attractions is the "SkyDrop", which at 540 feet and 95 miles per hour, aims to become the longest and fastest drop ride in the world.

A "flying theatre" takes 72 riders on a six-minute 4D ride, suspended 40 feet in the air, with their seats moving in sync with the movie. "SkyFly" will give participants the opportunity to experience zero gravity at the top of the tower, while the "SkyWalk" dangles harnessed guests off the edge of the building, 908 feet from the ground. Two glass-bottomed attractions, the "SkyGlide" and "SkyLedge", test the stomachs of visitors.

The building will also host a number of fine dining establishments, a 600-seat ballroom, and a 9,500-square-foot conference centre.
