After harnessing Chicago's Neighbourhood Opportunity Bonus for a height bump from 430 feet to 456 feet, JDL Development's No. 9 Walton has once again been granted a vertical increase. As reported by Curbed, an updated construction permit for the 37-storey luxury condominium development indicates that a revised residential penthouse plus changes to the mechanical penthouse and building envelope above the 35th floor have pushed the mass to a 491-foot pinnacle.

The changes result in an increase of 7,092 square feet to the 71-unit tower, which features a classical throwback exterior covered in precast limestone, granite and glass, a design by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture that has been brought to life over the past two years.

With so few units in the tower, the interior living spaces are allowed to stretch beyond the dimensions of a typical residential skyscraper in Chicago. Luxury is the name of the game here, where two- to six-bedroom residences, many of which span an entire floor, are equipped with individually crafted kitchens, high-end appliances, walnut or oak hardwood flooring, and polished nickel and silver finishings. As for amenities, the building sets aside plenty of space for an indoor lap pool and steam room, fully appointed fitness centre, private wine cellar, private dining room, a covered dog run, and two guest suites.

Occupancy has been targeted for April 2018, and recent photos from the Forum show that crews are on track as they gradually seal the building with its timeless variegated facade.
