London-based developer Moda Living has big plans for a site in Birmingham. They have retained Glenn Howells Architects to design what could be the city's tallest residential tower, soaring 42 storeys from a property previously home to a nightclub.

The £183 million 2one2 Broad Street project envisions 481 studio to three-bedroom apartments and 35,000 square feet of offices, retail and leisure space in the multi-level podium. The current plans call for a "hotel-style" lobby and a 200-metre running track on the roof of the podium structure as part of the building's amenity offerings. It will climb to a higher zenith than the 130-metre 10 Holloway Circus building, but fall short of the 152-metre BT Tower, which will remain Birmingham's tallest structure.

"Birmingham is a fantastic city and our fully managed building will meet the burgeoning demand for quality accommodation," said Tony Brooks, managing director at Moda Living. "The Moda Living model of single landlord ownership and taking a 360-degree lifestyle approach — covering everything from work to working out — will help meet this shortfall while also raising the bar in the local rental market."

A planning application has been filed with the city, with only a couple renderings showing the linear architectural expression of the building.
