A new project slated for the southern tip of Montreal's Nuns' Island has officially been launched. An inauguration of the sales office for the Symphonia Pop condominiums and penthouses was conducted last week with Mayor of the borough of Verdun, Jean-François Parenteau, joining project team members Kevin Robinson of Développements Symphonia and Roch Cayouette of architecture firm Provencher_Roy.
The 32-storey development, valued at over $100 million, will contain 240 units featuring between one- to four-bedrooms and 600 and 3,000 square feet of space. The building will rise near Symphonia 1 and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2020, after the construction of the new Champlain Bridge and the redesigned Turcot Interchange.
One-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums boasting open living areas, panoramic windows, and nine- to 11-foot ceiling heights occupy floors one through 24. The remaining floors will be home to the penthouses and terrace apartments, which sprawl up to 3,426 square feet of space. It will offer a wide variety of amenities to its residents, including indoor and outdoor pools, a 24/7 fitness room, and a games room.
The project's architectural expression is one of stacked cubes, arranged to maximize views and light. "The concept is rooted in the site's two distinct vistas: on the city side, an urban scene, and on the other, a breathtaking panoramic view of the St. Lawrence River, the South Shore and the Lachine Rapids," said Cayouette. "The southwest side, between green and blue, replicates the curve of the river, as with the first tower. Jutting out horizontally on the north side are superimposed cubes, called 'pops,' which reflect the outline of the city's high-rises."
