Eatons had several things named "Haddon Hall". Here is a rug but there are many others and probably cookware.

It turns out my mother kept it for sentimental reasons.... she said it was one of the first things she and her mother bought at eaton’s shoppers world in 1965 when my grandmother ie popo arrived in canada

Well that’s a kick in the teeth.

The problem is that SOME of these buildings look nice on the outside but left to rot inside. Take the former Commerce Bank Building at 197 Yonge St. It looked nice on the outside but when they opened up the building for Doors Open it was in need of extensive repair.

Given all the issues it is sometimes cheaper to tear down and rebuild. Contractors are not cheap.

Though keep in mind that the Bank of Commerce had sat unused for the better part of three decades or so. By that barometer, the Bank of Toronto would have had to have sat unused since the beginning of the Depression or so.

Also, a "heritage climate" in the air can breed incentive even re the furthest gone cases--think of Petrie in Guelph, or Dineen in Toronto (anyone remember the interior of Dineen pre-reno? It was a peeling-paint-everywhere mess)
