Construction Update

Dear Neighbours,

Below is a brief update on the CIBC SQUARE project:

Construction at 81 Bay Street

Work on the core continues to progress at 81 Bay street at an average rate of 1.5 levels per week. This week, crews will pour concrete to form the walls for levels 31.5 – 33 of the 81 Bay Street tower core, in addition beginning to install structural steel to levels 18-21. Last week, steel work started to form the Pavilion and is expected to continue as part of an afternoon work shift until 10 p.m., as per approved noise by-law exemption. In addition to work on the tower core, crews are pouring concrete to form the canopy deck and South Portal, with plans to pour concrete on the north, southeast, and west of the Portal as well as the east side of the building podium this week.

Beginning May 1st, crews will be on-site nightly to offload and install structural steel for the canopy at 81 Bay Street. This work is being completed at night because it requires a portion of Bay Street to be occupied, as the structural steel ranges between 70-80 feet in length and will not fit through the main construction gates. We have received a noise by-law exemption from the City to proceed with this work, and it is expected to be complete by May 10th.

Rail Corridor Overbuild Park
Crews continue to install metal decking for the overbuild park, with a concrete pour planned later this week on phases 4 and 5 of the lower metal decking. For safety reasons, all work in the overbuild park continues to take place overnight as workers are not permitted to be in the rail corridor during the day or evening when tracks are being used by trains. Your patience during this phase of work is very much appreciated.

When are we working?
The following working hours are expected at CIBC SQUARE:

Hours of Work:
5AM - 7AM Monday to Friday: Deliveries at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
7AM - 7PM Monday to Friday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay
7PM - 10PM Monday to Friday: Installation of steel reinforcement and concrete at 81 Bay Street, as well as structural steel for the southwest Podium at 81 Bay Street, as per approved noise by-law exemption permit
10PM - 5AM Monday - Saturday: Overnight work in the rail corridor for the park overbuild, in addition to offloading and installation of structural steel for the Bay Street canopy, as per approved noise by-law exemption
9AM - 7PM Saturday: Regular working hours at 81 Bay

Thank you for your patience and understanding. For any questions or comments, please email us atcommunity@CIBCSQUARE.com.

For those who can appreciate a first class builder and on a first class project covered by a first class contributor (michael62) than this is like manna from heaven.
The scope and complexity of this project is enormous yet I can't think of one day when it appeared to be offtrack or off schedule. Such a breath of fresh air.

OMG! It Takes 3 Shots to Cover the Core, Friday

Westside Story: There was a jump on Thursday, possibly causing our Stitching Friend some difficulties in the future

A piece of the colonnade roof projection can be seen opposite and at the same level as the roof of the Scotiabank Arena

A closer look at the progress on the southwest retail shop being formed out of steel. A lot of the work was completed overnight because they already had a noise permit for the colonnade, they might as well squeeze in the retail shop while they were at it. I was not noisy. Fortunately, no-one dropped their lunch pail or a steel beam during the night.

Eastside Story; more wall forming and some steel assembly for the next level of the podium on the central eastern side.

A closer look at the eastern wall and the continued formation of level#3's rebar assembly. My guess is that this will be completely filled in by this time next week.
