Couldn't have even curved the blocks to match the corner... This reeks of 'someone knew someone at the vendor'.
Could have at least picked a Canadian vendor. The design of these is almost spiteful - if I didn't know better I'd say they hired someone from MTL, CAL, VAN who hates Toronto to do this as a mean joke on us.
What a dreadful welcome to the city for all the travelers coming here from Pearson, Billy Bishop, GO, and Via.

The refusal to give out any information on what they had proposed is a dead giveaway. I can't wait to find out how much this exercise managed to cost as well.

My only guess is where the grocery store was to go? Anyways this is a big sign of approval for this area! And I know that this will make some people’s heads explode but it also reinforces the case for building above the tracks.Uniqlo at Union! But where?!

The scale of this map is terrible, this is more accurate:
Decathlon is the unit labeled 410. Small for a Uniqlo but a bit more than most boutiques in Union.

Phase 1 (what we are seeing now) cost ca $2 million! Phase 2 bids closed recently so expect another $2-3 million!
What a HUGE waste of time, money and effort.

I had lots to say about these awful new permanent barriers.
Dysfunction junction: permanent obstructions at Union Station
Toronto can, and should, do better than the ugly and intrusive new barriers that are being installed around Union Station.
