When you’re with Kelly you “have access”. We didn’t get into any of the occupiers spaces but all of the unoccupied rooms were accessible to us. I’m not positive but I think all of the public spaces on all of the floors are accessible to everyone.

The integration of old and new, the echoing of materials and themes while still acknowledging and celebrating both what is old and what is new is all very well designed and executed.

The main theme throughout being the optimization of the space for users while celebrating the building’s past and its future. It’s very human in scale and not a monument, offering the sort of spaces and the sort of details you want to spend time in.

Might as well get in on derailing this thread 😆
My list would probably be something like this
1. West Block
2. Eleanor
3. The MacLaren
4. Allard Hall
5. Enbridge Center
6. Legislature
7. Dauk Commons (Stadium Yards)
8. Edmonton Tower
9. Encore Tower
10. University Commons
Maybe this is a good idea for a thread of its own!

I'm relatively new to Edmonton and haven't yet seen many of the newer, much-heralded branch libraries or rec centers, or even things like the TELUS World of Science. Also, I'm going to cheat and sometimes combine adjacent buildings.

McLeod Building
LeMarchand Mansion
University Commons
Queen Elizabeth II Building
Robertson-Wesley United Church
Princess Theatre (inshallah it will be restored to its former glory) + Gainer Block
Garneau Theatre
World Trade Centre + TD Bank
Bay/Enterprise Square
St. Josaphat Cathedral

Other contenders:
Paroisse Saint-Joachim + adjacent rectory
Ellis Building
Muttart Conservatory
The Edge
Oliver Exchange Building
Maclean Block
Old RAM, but I've never seen it while in use and I don't think you can really judge a building's beauty from behind a fence
The Parks, but I'll hold off until it's fully built out
Athabasca/Assiniboia/Pembina Halls, Old Fine Arts, Rutherford Library, etc., but I wanted to limit it to one on campus; also the Butterdome (it's neat!)
Any number of older public school buildings could make this list, but I can't keep them straight so I'll forget them for the moment

The restored parts of the old dentistry building are done the same way the Arts building was restored. The U does it well.

Ooh ok I’ll have to try the upper floors again.

It looks really neat at night I must say.
