If they must build a parking structure on the south side of Lake Shore (and I don't think they should), then they should switch its site with the proposed Science Centre. That way, (i) the parking structure would be a bit smaller but much closer to the spa (otherwise it'll be a long hike in the winter) and (ii) the Science Centre could be bigger and adjacent to the mainland. If you're going to have a hulking structure next to one of OP's showcase beaches, let it be something that at least has a chance of being architecturally distinguished

The Science Centre is already in a fixed place: The Pods and Cinesphere make up a large part of its exhibits space. The main land building needs to be near the bridge. There'll be an underground connection.

The parking structure doesnt need to be on the waterfront at all. The city is making excuses to keep a parking lot that is used for the CNE 18 days a year. Not only is it within the 650m Ford said is in the Therme contract, it's closer. Mayor Chow needs to stop playing chicken with Ford. The Premier is going to get this built because it's personal to him and whether we like it or not, he's in charge. The best the city can do is make it better. Swap the land and spread the CNE to the park on the waterfront and around the new Forum at Ontario Place.

Almost anything Doug Ford does is to appease the automobile gods. Be it removing bicycle lanes, building the 413, building the 401 tunnel, lowering the gasoline taxes (having the non-auto users pay for the highways from general revenue), dropping license plate renewal fees, etc.. Now he wants a palace where his precious SUV can stay awhile, while he is at the new Ontario Place.

For now........The Premier has not actually had any bike lanes removed.

Which is not to say it may not happen, though things are tracking differently........

Which does not let the Premier off the hook for the absurd parking structure here. But maybe a little or a lot less off-topic polemicism would be welcome.

The Fall Economic Statement has a (short) list of 'other legislative changes" and they include:

  • Amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023 to broaden existing authorities that would help support the provincial government to streamline land use, access City of Toronto infrastructure and land, and remove procedural barriers to ensure a more efficient delivery of the Ontario Place Redevelopment Project.

Surprised nobody’s talked about the Provincial Govt.’s sneaky takeover of Exhibition Place.

There’s speculation that it’s ultimately to facilitate building Therme’s parking garage on Exhibition property without getting the city involved.

Hey, I despise Ford as much as the next guy but I wouldn’t be complaining too much as I’ve been repeatedly pointing out the obvious land swap:

Instead of building a big box car storage on prime waterfront property, build it north of Lake Shore and swap the Ontario Place parking lot, then build a land bridge over Lake Shore to link the space with the rest of Exhibition Place. The Ex not only doesn’t lose anything, it gains waterfront property.

"there's speculation" just say you love misinformation.
It's litterally just easements like they do with transit so they can build more efficiently.
Just because you are against the project, doesn't mean you are free to spread misinformation

Speculation is not misinformation though. It's an analysis of what is happening and could happen no matter how far off the mark it turns out to be. Perhaps you could tell us why you think it's off the mark instead.

Hmm this is a very weird take, if that's the definition of speculation, I have a covid lie to tell you.
no but seriously. that's a very very weird take on the definition of misinformation
