    Restaurant Comings & Goings

It's just a fancy name for a Food Court and there should be one food court for every office tower/complex.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Even on Mondays and Fridays the McDonald's are busier than any of the other food court outlets, and those are mostly young professionals lining up (or rather, waiting for their number to be called after they ordered through the app).

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Go see how busy a McDs is in the downtown core food courts is during lunch hour. They've adapted quite well. Can't say the same for KFC. Popeye's has taken over as the dominant fried chicken chain, at least in Toronto.

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

This would hurt more if places such as MImi/Sunny's and Sue Fong didn't come along in recent years. LWH was the pinnacle of Chinese cuisine in Toronto in its day.

    Innovation/Automation in Retail

Tried it at the Eaton Centre location. I found that it detected items before I had put them in the bin. Not a big deal but I would prefer if their iPad would display a picture of the item instead of the name though so I could easily verify it wasn't detecting items that somebody passing by was...

    Yorkdale Shopping Centre

Don't they mean re-entering the Canadian market? Or did Retail Insider forget they had stores here before?

They updated the article with "Clarification: Representatives from the Shangri-La issued a statement denying that Estiatorio Milos is opening at its hotel."

    Yorkdale Shopping Centre

Alexander McQueen stores exist in luxury malls in HK and China. I suspect much of Yorkdale's recent success at reinventing themselves as a luxury destination is due to the Asian market here anyway.

    Non-US E-commerce for electronics

Don't know about pccanada.com but https://www.pc-canada.com/ is legit. Or buy directly from the manufacturer like brother.ca. It's not like any printers or computers are actually made-in-Canada anyhow.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

I thought all Leon's stores were just showrooms. I've never purchased anything from them but I don't recall ever seeing anyone moving furniture into a vehicle like you see at the regular IKEA stores.

News on retail chains (was: New Mall Retail)

Yes, but they probably figure it's not worth the trouble. Even if they got all the retail condo units to sell, they would have to arrange for loading docks, elevators, customer parking areas, etc. Or they could just make more money getting downtown customers to pay for shipping. It's a lot...

    Canadian Tire

Not sure what's going on with the Eaton Centre store but my order for pickup was cancelled. It was for four items. So either their in-stock info is deceptive or they're having other problems. Placed two pick-up orders for the Yonge & Church location and they were quickly confirmed and the...

    Hudson's Bay Company

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Store-within-a-store Hudson's Bay likely gets paid by the brand to isolate their products from other brands. The brands probably are willing to pay so that their products are not associated with some lesser brand (or a brand with different values).

    Hudson's Bay Company

I think the shopper that wants to get in and out is rare and not the primary target for Hudson's Bay overall design. Those who don't like to go shopping have mostly shifted online (where it's easy to sort by type of time, regardless of brand) or only shop when it's an emergency (they've got you...
