  1. The Golem

    Regent Park

Thanks for the link. I took a closer look yesterday and saw the Sesqui signage. And it opens next week, should be interesting.
  2. The Golem

    Regent Park

    Anyone know what this is?
  3. The Golem

    Toronto Expo 2025

I don't think that would happen here, we could simply design the stadiums and exhibit halls to turn into condos after the event.
  4. The Golem

    Cabbagetown

Stryke Target Range on Dundas just east of River (formerly a dog grooming store, beside the Lexus dealership) has an Open House this weekend starting today at 3:00 pm. For anyone looking to throw an axe. http://stryke.ca/promos/ I'm hoping to check it out later this evening.

    Regent Park

Cycle Solutions is a quality bicycle shop with a wide range of bikes, not only road and mountain. And they have a tough time getting through the slow winter months so another bike shop in the area would have a hard time surviving.

Yes that Wendy's is disappointing. But the Paintbox remains so there is another option. I noticed too that the convenience store is completely gutted, with no indication of what is going in or when it will be re-opened. And there's been no activity in it, the past couple of days.

    Toronto Expo 2025

Pan Am Games contributed towards 2015 being Toronto's best year for tourism. http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/toronto-tourism-reached-all-time-high-in-2015-statistics-1.2770067 Ontario Place doesn't have nearly enough available space nor infrastructure for a World Expo.

I never know if the developers: a. Ask for 38-40 when they really want 32-36 and will "compromise" down to demonstrate they're reasonable, community-oriented people, or b. Ask for 38-40 and if the city refuses, pay off, er, request the OMB to overrule the city. And...Regent Park is looking good!
  9. The Golem

    Regent Park

The video was okay but left out one of my favourite details of the reno, this signage:
  10. The Golem

    Regent Park

I walked through there today and didn't see any litter. OTOH, leaving my apt building in the area I saw a white, first world man throw a food wrapper into the bushes beside the walking path. WTF?! We live here dude, who do you think is going to clean that up
  11. The Golem

    Toronto's "urban myths"

There are a couple of abandoned subway stations downtown. Lower Bay (sometimes used for movie shoots), and another at Queen.
  12. The Golem

    Toronto Expo 2025

Olympics costs many billions more. (Why do we need another stadium that will be too big for any local sporting events?) And much less $$$$ in security for Expo. The Pan Am Games were safe, but there were often absurd number of police everywhere. Expo would als0 provide permanent "things". For...
  13. The Golem

    Toronto Expo 2025

Maybe we'd be more interested if we participated. Over 100 pavilions at the Milan2015 Expo but Canada couldn't be bothered. Probably because the current federal gov't thinks the only thing we have to offer the world is tarsands bitumen.
  14. The Golem

    Toronto 2024 Olympic Bid (Dead)

Quite the opposite. An Olympics village for the athletes would be another, and larger opportunity than Pan Am to develop neglected space with a massive housing project. Besides, Toronto doesn't need the Olympics to "raze area and displace" residents. That's happening now and will continue to...
  15. The Golem

    Toronto 2024 Olympic Bid (Dead)

Enough people to fill that stadium trying to get there via the limited Portlands roads would be quite interesting. But the 'where' is a problem that can be solved. The Pan Am Games have more sports, more events and more athletes than the Olympics and has gone pretty well so far.
