Join a Virtual Public Meeting on Villiers Island​

Learn more about the plans for ‘Villiers Island’ and the future opportunities for public input.​

Port Lands Flood Protection unlocks an opportunity to build more housing, including affordable housing on what is currently called ‘Villiers Island’. The City of Toronto, CreateTO and Waterfront Toronto were tasked with finding ways to increase density planned for this island that don’t compromise the vision set by the Villiers Island Precinct Plan and Port Lands Planning Framework for a sustainable, complete community.

At a public meeting in June 2023, we shared how the planning context for the waterfront has changed since the precinct plan was approved in 2017 and some different approaches to increasing density on ‘Villiers Island’. In that meeting and follow-up survey, we took your questions and feedback about how best to incorporate more homes in this new neighbourhood. On March 26, we will present an update on the work we are doing to update the precinct plan and the recommended approach that resulted from the Density Study, including public feedback.

We are also planning to present the same material in person on May 2, 2024. More information on that meeting location and time will be shared once available.

This meeting will take place online using Microsoft Teams. Those unable to join online will have the option of calling into the meeting, and a recording of the meeting will be posted online following the live event. If you can’t join this meeting, we will share the same materials at an in-person meeting on May 2, 2024. Details to come on time and location.

Traffic Notice​

No Access Between Morse Street and Lake Shore Boulevard East: March 15-17​

Between March 15 at 10p.m. and March 17 at 11p.m., the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard and Morse Street will be closed. During this work, access to Morse Street will be via the laneways that connect to Carlaw Avenue and Logan Avenue.
This closure is needed because workers will be installing underground utilities.

What to expect from 10 p.m. Friday, March 15 to 11 p.m. Sunday, March 17:​

  • There will be no access to Lake Shore Boulevard from Morse Street
  • There will be no access to Morse Street from Lake Shore Boulevard
  • Access to Morse Street will be via the laneways that connect to Carlaw Avenue and Logan Avenue

No Access Between Booth Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard East: March 18-25​

Between March 18-25 the intersection of Booth Avenue with Lake Shore Boulevard is planned to be closed. There will be no access to Booth Avenue from Lake Shore Boulevard and no access to Lake Shore Boulevard from Booth Avenue during the closure. Access to Booth Avenue will be via Eastern Avenue.

Additional Nearby Traffic Impacts:​

Logan Avenue is reduced to one lane where it meets Lake Shore Boulevard East. Traffic is still able to move north and south between Logan Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard East – in one direction at a time. Between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., flaggers will be present to direct traffic moving between Logan Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard.

I had a quick look at this area while biking the other day. Looks like they’re prepared for the QQ-Cherry intersection to go in here next to the existing ped crossing. They built up a curb and put in a bike stall but that can relocate a lot easier than the hydrant and crosswalk posts. Still a long way from QQ extension with Parliament slip still to be filled in.
