The ION LRT in Kitchener-Waterloo is crossing gate-free in the central area but outside the downtown it has crossing arms. That system uses the identical LRVs as the Valley Line SE.

Some of the lines on Portland's MAX are the same: no gates downtown, crossing gates at major intersections in outlying areas.

I would personally be okay with having Crossing arms in areas outside of the downtown. For example where the tracks pass whitemud and at Roper Road and possibly at 34th Avenue. These intersections on the south side are probably the busiest intersections although I think the whitemud area is probably one where plenty of accidents may occur.

Lots of old pipes and utility infrastructure has both led and asbestos in it. Instead of using PVC like we do now they used old asbestos insulation

They’ll most likely try to complete the plinths on the guideway, stop platforms, and track work outside of the intersections over the winter. Should be able to get lots done
