The zoos numbers compared to Toronto definitely has to do with location. Ours is central, attached to a rapid transit station, and at the intersection of two highways. The Toronto Zoo is relatively far-flung; in Scarborough, about 2 km off the highly congested 401. No rapid transit within 10 km or so.

Was the National Music Centre mostly privately funded? Seems odd to me that is one of our major museums when we don't have a natural history museum. I think good museums can actually do well in Calgary with the number of visitors the city gets. The Calgary Zoo has higher visitor volumes than Toronto despite a much smaller population.
If I recall the NMC got $25 million from each order of government, plus private donations on top of that.

I think it's still the Glenbow, just located within the JR Shaw Centre? I don't think it's like ArtsCommons becoming Werklund Centre. Their website refers to it as "their new home" rather than a new name

The Glenbow Museum is located within the JR Shaw Centre just like how the National Music Centre is located within Studio Bell.

Seems like they've quietly adjusted the re-opening date to 2027 since this article was published.
