A very well-connected source told me that Pan Pacific and Mandarin Oriental are in the running for the hotel component. Mandarin Oriental has pre-existing experience in the branded residential sector, and given Tridel's desire to co-brand the residences above to command greater premiums, I'm hoping this one pulls through.

Is there any word on what retail is poised to be opening on the ground level?
No. Many people are hoping that Apple will negotiate a lease with the new ownership: they still need a flagship store in this city, the space was designed for them in the first place, and it's both one that very few other retailers would be able to take best advantage of, or even afford. Don't expect any public acknowledgement of who does go into the space until its kitting-out makes it obvious.

That makes sense. I've always assumed they'd come back eventually, and their problem was more so with the continuous mess that was Mizrahi. I would think Tridel would be better to work with.

It makes sense for them to end up there if they still have ambitions to open a new Toronto flagship anytime in the near future. I can't think of any similarly good retail spaces for their needs and standards, lest they go through this entire process again the next time a new flagship tower is developed.

It wasn't until today when I realized the sheer size of this building! 😮
