No. Many people are hoping that Apple will negotiate a lease with the new ownership: they still need a flagship store in this city, the space was designed for them in the first place, and it's both one that very few other retailers would be able to take best advantage of, or even afford. Don't expect any public acknowledgement of who does go into the space until its kitting-out makes it obvious.

What else could go there? Any industry speculation? LEGO was looking for a flagship store for Toronto but it’s been quiet for a while and I think LEGO World is more of a Yonge-Dundas thing than Yonge-Bloor. At one point I would have said Tesla but at the rate of its latest sales collapse it'll be lucky to afford any space in Yorkville by the time this tower is finished.

I’m hoping for a hotel lobby/restaurant. Could it still be reconfigured like envisioned in the early stages?

And is this PATH connection still possible?

But you’re right, the more I think of it, without a major reconfiguration or demising, not a lot of other luxury brands would want such a large space with super high ceilings and given the cost to the developer to reconfigure this space, there's only one likely conclusion here. The original intended tenant has a lot of leverage if they still want it.

Taipei 101's TMD is smaller than you may think.

What high-end retailer would want to be right at Yonge & Bloor??

The area is so trashy. Tons of addicts everywhere.

Bloor street starts to get nice West and North of Bay and Bloor, but Yonge & Bloor is not a nice corner. Marginally nicer than Dundas & Yonge, but same type of vibe.

Sorry, but wishing otherwise just doesn't line up with reality.

I think that's what people had hoped The One would change, expanding the Yorkville vibe eastward to and past Yonge — myself included. As a nearby resident, I'm hoping for a late evening activity that keeps eyes on the street later than the typical 7 or 8pm retail closure. A large hotel lobby similar in size to The Sheraton on Queen with a restaurant and hotel bar would keep an upscale vibe at the corner and shoe away the riff raff that bubble up from Yonge Street.

1) I think it would be pretty big if you stood right next to it.

2) Since they are likely still assembling the thing, it still might get bigger yet.

3) It weight picted appears to be suspended in a fairly large apparatus though. While I believe the one here is more or less a standalone.

No, that's the whole thing. It looks much bigger in photos but in person or in a photo with a guy on top, it's surprisingly small. It's just very dense.

The beams were eventually removed once it was all assembled. It kind of just hangs there freely under its own weight, swaying with the building and pushing it in the other direction. The One's TMD is less flashy but will accomplish the same thing. I do wonder what it's like to be in the building now, without that counter weight. Must make having lunch up there an unsettling experience for workers.

When the media was up there several months ago for the 300m celebration, there was no noticeable sway. There was also no wind. When we went up Pinnacle's SkyTower more recently for the 100 storeys celebration, there was no noticeable sway. There was some wind.

I am including the apparatus in this as what makes this whole thing work as fa as I am aware.

...it should also be noted that I suspect that the thing is designed like that as it deals with more extreme conditions from earthquakes and typhoons in that region. While that would be much less of a problem here at One Bloor W..
