They are drilling

Am I among the few who don't mind the design? Sure, it's simple, and clearly form is following function, but at least there's a good attempt to roll with that.

All the windows are about the same size, and square, aligned, and slightly recessed. The colour palette is good. The podium is really nice. There are no random rectangles. It's not blowing me away, but there's nothing exactly ugly about it.

A little more creativity with the floor plans to orient the balconies in a more aesthetically pleasing order would have probably made all the difference, but it doesn't ruin it for me.

Plus, remember there should be a high rise on the Scotiabank site eventually, potentially up to 150m - might fit in better with context.

It's kind of like radio play music. There's so much drivel that the general masses don't get exposed to the good stuff. Then it kind of becomes the baseline taste for people. So now I hear things like "How can you like that? There's no random rectangles or aluminum fins?"

Then you get a project like this that quietly hits the right notes and gets called crap.

My only real complaint about it is how wide the buildings are - in terms of massing it reminds me of those 70s apartment towers that are plentiful in Toronto and Ottawa. But otherwise, I think the colours and materials look fine, and I like the clean, simple design.
That’s my main complaint also, but aside from that I’m still happy to see this getting built.

Those older condos are the ones with the large units and livable layouts though. I'm thinking ones like Rideau Pl. Maybe these will harken back to those? I can't imagine Cadillac Fariview skimping too hard, they are usually a premium real estate developer aren't they?
