Granted it’s harder in the rail corridor, but it looks likes it’s only been cleaned once in the past 10 or 11 years.
 
Let's also bring back the bridge into Earlscourt Park. Virtually extends the path almost 1km. Shouldn't have been removed from the plan in the first place.
Yeah, that would have been nice.

The cheaper non-bridge connection is happening though.

I did that bike ride this summer, up on Lansdowne then through Earlscourt and Prospect cemetery. It's a beatuiful ride but yes the connection from Lansdowne to Earlscourt needs serious improvement and is a danger for both pedestrians and cyclists. Bridge directly from the Greenway to Earlscourt would have been and excellent improvement.

On December 16, 2025 City Council approved the installation of a bi-directional cycle track on Davenport Road between Foundry Avenue and Caledonia Park Road and new traffic control signal at Davenport Road and Foundry Avenue. A copy of the staff report is available at IE26.6 – Cycling Network Plan – 2025 Cycling Infrastructure Fourth Quarter Update and our last email update stated that if approved, the cycle tracks are planned to be installed in 2026-2027.



Since Council approval, the Metrolinx Davenport Diamond Public Realm (DDPR) project has encountered unexpected delays due to the discovery of contaminated soil. Provincial safety laws prevent two different contractors from working in the same location at the same time. As a result, the City’s improvements to Davenport Road and the Caledonia Park multi-use trail access point are planned for construction after the completion of work by Metrolinx.



Project Recap

The following design has been approved by Toronto City Council:



Davenport Road:

Physically separated cycle tracks
New signalized intersection at Foundry Avenue including crosswalks for pedestrians and cross rides for people cycling
Reduction of 17 on-street parking spaces on Davenport Road to accommodate the new signal at Foundry Avenue
Curb extensions on both sides of Foundry Avenue to shorten pedestrian crossing distances


Caledonia Park Road:

Installation of a missing sidewalk on the west side of Caledonia Park Road
Provide permanent parking and formalizing spaces on east side of the street with installation of new pavement markings
Intersection improvements at St Clair Avenue and Davenport Road (i.e., enhanced pavement markings)
Streetscape features to include planted boulevard and canopy trees


Next Steps

The City is updating the planned project timing based on coordination with Metrolinx and expects construction drawings to go to tender in 2026 and begin construction in 2027. An update on construction timelines will be sent closer to the tender award.

This design to get to Earlscourt is symptomatic of a bureaucracy that has lost the will to try hard. We all know that most will not be happy with this design and that day 1 people will be saying "why could the route not be straighter and have bridge?". Metrolinx was obsessed with never talking about a connection because of their fear of having to pay for it (and with all the delays because the City and Metrolinx could not get in the same room and solve their design issues Metrolinx knew that inflation was eating up the Greenway budget by the day.). The City seemed to have a well rehearsed list of why a bridge connection could not be done. It was never framed as "we just dont have the money" but rather as problems with Hydro or sight lines or future Metrolinx projects; all untested reasons. My experience is that when the City says something cant be done right out of the gate they are BSing you. Yes a bridge connection would cost money that might be better spent elsewhere and thats a fair argument but we never had that argument because often the City doesnt want good faith discussion. Its just easier for them to say it cant be done and then suggest something mediocre that seems to be an improvement. "Toronto: Mediocrity is our Strength".
