Just wanted to echo the sentiments about the 104 ave traffic lights. And they haven't even installed all of the traffic lights yet. A brisk pace and no fear of jay walking could probably beat a car when travelling between 124-105.

However, on the plus side, the new configuration is far more pedestrian friendly and conducive to bridging the gap between MacEwan and downtown.
I also have now basically switched to taking 107th ave from now on. 104th is just too slow with all the lights.

Marigold wouldn’t be responsible for that, they would likely get city data or input and calculate the timing that way. Or it is worked into the software program they are running for the signals. Either way, the city has never fixed my complaints about timing on 111th street and it’s been 5 years and many many 311 calls to get them to acknowledge there’s nothing they can do
I mean, they currently are. And they’re who changed it when I kept complaining to them about it. And they were the ones trying to defend the professional engineer that originally timed it as it was. And when I called 311 they directed me to marigold.

So it seems they’re currently responsible 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good thing to note is that I think for the Canadian ones, it's CMA numbers, which means our numbers are a bit deflated since our metro area is massive.
For sure, I appreciate when CityNerd goes beyond the US but it can be tough to account for absolutely everything when our jurisdictions are so variable. He also acknowledged that the Mexican cities were probably pretty under-counted

Oh it's not just CityNerd who does it, even local transit threads by Canadians get that misconception. Probably why the stats and the perception differ compared to actually visiting the city and experiencing transit here.

Email marigold. Some arrogant prick there gave me a lecture about how a professional has timed the lights…. Maybe a few dozen more emails will teach them not to gaslight and to actually look at the obvious problems.

They fixed 95ave after my 3rd email and 2nd video sent to my councillor proved their claims beyond false.

Heard back from MIP, they gave me similar boilerplate (albeit their response was very cordial and respectful), but they did include:

"On 104 Ave, specifically, the timing is such to allow pedestrians time to cross the avenue safely. In the future, detection loops will be installed along this stretch, which will shorten some of the wait times."

Guessing detection loops are waiting on the final asphalt lift before they can be installed.
