As much as we flame and roast Westrich for the parking lot proposals, they do have a really solid track record of actually building.

Plus they've sort of blocked off the lot and cut down the trees on site, which is a good sign. I wouldn't be surprised if activity starts by the end of the month but that might be me being optimistic.

It's underreported and underhyped (if this was in Calgary, you bet the media will be glazing it) but stuff like this is why I'm super optimistic about downtown's future.

Momentum starts slowly and then suddenly it's going to be massively noticeable.

That's 592 residential units now under construction around this area, that's pretty good!

Very nice to see. The more residential downtown, the better! But one must note, what's being built is mainly stick-frame

All the tall tower proposals are gone. I get it: the economics etc. But isn't it a bit sad that Edmonton, a city of more than a million people, in a relatively wealthy province, can't build higher?!

I really do hope the exterior materials are of good quality. This city has enough small punched windows and stucco.

If they stick to the renders, this one should be a bit nicer than most of the 6-stories that have been going up. Brick, large windows, street-facing units, and a somewhat interesting looking entranceway.

There's still plenty of empty lots for high-rises when market conditions improve!

Not to be nick picky but I count 7 floors. I assume they will go with steel frame construction.

Not to overstate things but this development in particular plus Shift is a big win for downtown. That street and parking lot was one of the worst in the area.

Ah that's right, I am hopeful that the steel frame construction has better soundproofing than wood frame, so it might start to improve the reputation of these smaller buildings.
