Seems EXTREMELY dangerous to have residential on ground floor directly across from the YMCA where.. questionable things happen at night.. seems like a safety hazard.. at least commercial units would have security cameras.. I don't know...

YMCA is going bye-bye in a few years and will probably be redeveloped so won't be too major of a concern for too long.

These are live/work units which explains their odd appearance from first glance. I do wonder how that will fare in Hamilton. I can't think of any new live/work units in Hamilton, and certainly not new units.
So are these two storey units? Office or biz on first floor and residential above or what?

Um MOST of hamilton has become that - live/work is traditionally an office or work space in the first floor with living space in the back or on the second floor.. it's historically worked QUITE well.. that's basically all hamilton was originally..

although you may be correct for NEW ones

It may just be me but I would not live on the ground floor anywhere in the lower city and especially with floor to ceiling windows like this. I would live in fear wondering when my window is going to be smashed in and some dude just helps himself to all my shit or puts me or my partners life in jeopardy. This building is far too close to MacNab St South which is usually to be avoided. Since my building staff are somewhat involved with that building I should see if I can get a tour.
