A new DP is up along 17th Avenue at 24A Street SW, just west of Crowchild Trail:

If it doesn’t get VE’d then this will be a win. Brick and metal/composite paneling is above the standard for the average 5 floor wood build.

This would be in terribly close proximity to the already large Casel apartment building that is just across the single lane alleyway. Seems like an inappropriate place for such a large development when you consider traffic, emergency access, etc. Not to mention there are several huge and mature trees on that lot which will most likely be removed, which is such a shame.

Disagree, this is perfect for the area. If traffic is bad, take transit!

“Taking transit” doesn’t eliminate delivery trucks, garbage collection, emergency access, safety concerns or the reality of a single-lane alley that’s often blocked. Supporting density and asking for practical site planning aren’t mutually exclusive.

No it just get more single occupant vehicles off the road that can make more space for utility and service vehicles. Traffic is only going to get worse in this city, so be part of the solution instead of being a part of the problem and complaining about it.

I’m all for being part of the solution. Nothing wrong with densifying and I do agree the area could use it. Thoughtful site planning is part of that. Ignoring real access constraints because we hope transit solves everything isn’t.

Wait until you hear about the beltline!
