I'm afraid not many stretches in the city beat the Daldongnae Zanzibar Shelby's Ali Baba's stretch found here.

dog's breakfast so far
To be fair, we are at the messiest part of this project, the podium. As the curtain wall rises, I think a lot of people are going to be pleasantly surprised. I for one think this project could be a very good addition to our city. The first bits of curtain wall gives me hope.

Glass looks good but the white panels were a wrong choice they do not contrast properly with the color of the glass.

Yes it looks fat but remember 300m....so it's going to look almost like a pencil tower from the north/south views.

^Agree. It should look fine from the north/south, and not-so-fine from the east/west. I do like the white accents though, and wish they were planned for the entire tower, as I have stated before.

Very unfortunate the original was not what was built. It looks beautiful in the single render that was released, though that design might have been the same wide slab from the east/west (it appears not, but hard to tell).

^Pinnacle One has now taken up the mantra for the height here (and then some) with less shadowing of park issues that this proposal was causing before it got scaled back to what we are seeing built today to my understanding. (And no, it wasn't Jesse Ketchum this time.)

Toronto Architecture is simply some of the worst in the world. Walking around the city, you just wonder does the city even have a city council? is there a division for architecture and urban planning? Spanning glass from building to building, nothing is matching and nothing is relatable. It's a mish mash of unbounded boredom. Simply a big mess. I will say one thing positive tho, it seems things are getting a bit better, but still not to par of other mega cities

The Province has not given City Council the power to make decisions based on style, so we do not have an architecture czar. Urban design decisions all have to be made based on planning principles built on measurable, quantifiable factors. If you'd like that changed, petition the Ontario government with your ideas on how to make your system work, and let us know how that goes please.

I mean we do have architecture czars, but they all hang out here mostly jobless of that official position save one that works for the Globe... 😼

Ha, the provincial government giving the city more powers to make decisions on their own. Good one.

A bit hyperbolic, if you ask me. I’ve been to 57 countries and I can tell you that there are many cities with architecture worse than Toronto. If you walk around and really look at the built environment, there are some very interesting buildings, from low rise to high rise. I get that the spandrel-fest we suffered through for 15 years was a blow to the overall look of the city, dominated as it was by bottom dollar, cheap developers. But there are great buildings in this city. And great ones to come.
