As much as I would love for Calgary to have an indoor stadium, I also know it's not very realistic. The tenants don't bring in enough money for how much it would cost to build. The more realistic result would be a new stadium similar to what's in Hamilton.

the indoor fieldhouse concept made a lot of sense to me, especially with the CFL now being a 25k or so league...however you'd never host a grey cup unfort. Plus, the more team tenants you layer in...the true fieldhouse people (track and field mostly) drop off because their access is now very limited. So, it becomes too many cooks in the kitchen and thus no project lol

Semifinals and Final will be in Calgary/Edmonton. That's a long way to go for whoever is playing in Prague!
Calgary and Prague: 6 round robin and one elimination (7 each, 14 total)
Edmonton: Semifinals and finals (3 games)

I wonder if Calgary and Edmonton got to choose who got more games or the bigger games. I think having 7 games is probably better for Calgary because that gives a week or so of events versus just 3/4 days at the end of the tournament.

This is why we need all of those hotel rooms... Too bad none of the new ones will be done. Wonder how much people will travel for this or if it will be a a locally driven event.

7 games > 3 games...every day of the week

You are much more likely to see a local impact with visitors and sponsors...during the 6 or 7 day round robin when you can plan....versus 3 days when you cant
Also pricing wise, locals are much more likely to go see the 7 games vs the 3 most expensive games. If given the choice, would definitely choose the 7 as well.

Or they could’ve just done all the games in Alberta. Don’t get the inclusion of Prague. They could’ve just done Alberta 2028 then for 2032 done Prague/Bratislava (or whatever)

To grow the game overseas. It's the same reason why they have games in Europe early in the season, and why some games start during the day on a weekday. I'm sure it also helps ticket sales. This event isn't the Olympics, it's not going to drive anywhere near the number of tourists, selling 17 games in AB would be difficult for European matchups, which would do much better locally.

You dont have to grow the game in Prague? Czechia loves hockey and has since the 60s. Any of the European host cities that bid all have deep roots in hockey for decades.

But I do agree a Slovakia/Switzerland/Germany games will have better sales and access for fans in Prague then Calgary.

Thinking about that now. This should spark some convo on a train between Calgary and Edmonton if they want to feed off each other for future events. Europeans have such easy access to other major cities via rail and cheap flights which we struggle in Canada with
