Incredible work so far on this development. This is really going to emphasize this entertainment district Hamilton is working on!
I'm so excited to see this area have many additional patrons both living and hotelling and shopping in this area. York Blvd has been left to die for far too long. I hope the commercial district of York can one day continue all the way back to Dundurn St with more pedestrian focused mixed use density, rather than the weird mishmash of car-oriented plazas and low density.

A reminder that the area around Coppley was a dense commercial district 100 years ago (Coppley being the blue building on the right with the multiple large "S"):

York can come back. What we did to it was awful and fairly short-sighted, but adjacent parcels are suited to redevelopment if we can bring it. We are not the first city to widen a street to an avenue, we just need to rebuild the blocks (properly). York is the northwest gateway; if that can be realized once more, it will be a very unique and desirable spot.

Jackson Square, which your image shows is indeed 9 city centre blocks and the most critical section of York, holds the key. Re-integrate that fabric, and everything changes completely. Yale will have to reckon with their asset someday.

Soo.. there was originally a building butted up BESIDE this - hence why that wall looks so.. like it is.. what's the plan for the REST of this lot? Because it still feels very sparse in this area.. with the arena being the only real feeling to come to this area..

Also it's crazy to look back on the market square - torontos market square and even their old city hall are basically carbon copies of the ones we had.

Also what's crazy is that steel "bridge" between the coppley buildign and the one beside it was still there 100 years ago - it shows on that blueprint as that little grey bridge.

If you want to explore the fire insurance maps a bit more the McMaster main portal is still down. But you can access it through their historical map. I pulled the screenshot from the 1911, but there is also an 1898 version as well: https://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/aerialphotos/index.html

The property to the north of Coppley isn't owned by Core Urban, so no plans currently to my knowledge.

Let's put some low-rent housing across the street from it where the City Centre sits now.

Filling up Hamilton's older neighbourhoods with low-rent housing, shelters, and half-way houses has been great for the downtown so far. More please.
