Any rumours on other retail coming here? We need more food options in the hood.
I agree. I love seeing the Distillery starting to overflow its boundaries a bit, Le Beau is very popular on Cherry, now Mandy's will lure people as well.
Does anyone know if there are plans to improve the signed "motorcoach loading zone" on Trinity, where the buses drop all the tourists? It's always embarrassingly ragged, with overgrown weeds in the summer. A slightly better welcome for visitors would be nice.
I'm happy to have this nice wide sidewalk along Front, instead of that narrow muddy asphalt path on the north side of the street (what's up with that?). This stretch will be nice once the trees are in place and they have a few years to grow. It will make a good visual extension of the Canary District. But I noticed some of the stone work they laid in the fall didn't survive the freeze/thaw cycles of winter very well and there are already numerous trip hazards spraypainted, presumably for repair.
I also think there's some smart community planning going on here, with the Rekai Centre care home under construction right across the street. The Shopper's is poised to gain a lot of business from their residents, and when they go for walks the benches will give them places to sit. I think someone was complaining about these benches having no focal point for sitters, but many older people I know tell me they can walk pretty long distances but only if they take regular rest stops, and in many parts of Toronto this isn't possible due to lack of seating.
I also like the style of these new garbage cans, even though I already saw one over the weekend stuffed to overflowing with trash. I assume they are not technically supposed to be in use yet and nobody is yet being paid to empty them.
