You don't really appreciate the size of this place until you see how tiny the doors at the front enterance are relative to the rest of the place. Can you imagine working in those front offices with all those massive machines right behind you. Would have been wild.

Just read you could fit the entire Titanic inside its main generating hall.

If they couldn't even save that soap factory due to similar expenditures, then how is it are they planning to save this place?
 
Well, it's kind of a unique opportunity to make a landmark, destination site on the city's east waterfront. However, in Doug Ford's Ontario, I doubt there exists the vision for this, much less the political willpower. This guy would rather pass measures to corrode democracy and civic input - and hide from scrutiny. Still, the potential is there. As for the soap factory, it would have been nice had they preserved at least a few elements of it. But the Hearn is so much more impressive in its sheer bulk. Even tearing it down and remediating the land would take quite the effort and outlay.
