Turns out... they do work on Saturdays.

So they made it more difficult to demolish because developers were demolishing buildings that shouldn't be and sat as an empty lot for years to decades. Now they went back to the old way because they can't be bothered to enforce rules around... Checks notes... Making sure buildings are structurally sound.

Love that. Super great. Looking forward to more vacant lots in our near future for decades. Empty grass lots are a sign of a successful downtown I've heard.

Hey it's MY job to be "that guy" hahaha...

But yes not too thrilled about that either. I never even went into that building so personally I don't know what we've lost, which is regrettable.. but eh.. was just out of the way.. imo the render looks actually BETTER than what was there.. admittedly this stretch felt tired with a lack of a whole street coverage.. so I am curious to see how this looks after :) - now for that A & W...

Regardless of what any of us think about Darko, we have to admit, he gets stuff done. Is the stuff noteworthy? Usually not. Lately he seems to have shifted a bit on this, so we shall see where it leads. It won't ever be core-urban quality most likely, but I'd take a stinson level design with a darko level process of getting it done. Perhaps he was just getting his sea legs, maybe he has more cash to burn now.., who knows. But yeah I am DEFINITELY getting cotton factory stinton redesign vibes from this one.

This corner (or block if you really want to get wild) is prime for a skyscraper or two or three, too bad it's so short and not mixed use. I'd love to see a 60+ floor mixed use tower here with commercial at grade, a hotel on the next 15 or so floors then rentals or condos above.

Pesonally I prefer what hamilton tends to do more which is either one side low and the other side high - or one side low and the other side high with 3 story high podiums matching the surrounding areas. I don't like canyons - they make everything dark and cold and its not fun to walk through them. I don't mind if it's stepped back though like william thomas - but yeah. We're not Toronto - let's be our own thing. I like seeing the sun lol.

I am waiting for Vancor to request an increase in floors for the building. He has done this before. I also expect they will change the name of the hotel to a chain brand. This is most likely a placeholder name for the hotel while they negotiate a contract with someone. Of the 20 hotels he owns, only one is not a chain brand and that is the Waterfront Hotel Downtown Burlington.

This one is already partnered with the Laundry Rooms and Equal Parts. It appears at least that this is some kind of weird legacy project. Laundry Rooms has a hotel already in Hamilton, and it appears Equal Parts would be operating the ground floor restaurant.

That doesn't necessarily mean it will move forward as, you mention, Vrancor is East of sketchy operations, but it does appear the partnerships have already been somewhat made.
