Great to see the first pier being topped off (or whatever it's called) you can see it splitting at the top.

Also cool to see the footings (or whatever they're called) for the elevated section along Don Mills.

That's a pier table. It's essentially the same depth as the beams that join the pier will be. They need to build this part conventionally and it will be the base from where the form traveler will start growing the beams out in either direction.

Well this is how you burn any goodwill in community. This ESB has been the first structure started, and Metrolinx paid for ads for the businesses next to this construction (indicated blue on map) to remind people they are open. And 2 years later, they are going to demolish it.

It must be petrifying living along Pape right now. And no indication what will replace a block of houses and businesses in final form. Cynical me would expect empty lot and ESB like on Eglinton LRT.

They have installed the first ring (6 precast segments) as of this morning. I tried to find some visual proof but no luck.
I remember photos of a stock of liners sitting in a yard in whitby for the Scarborough subway. is there something similar or are they being delivered as they need them from the factory?

There will be 13622 precast liners in total for the southern tunnel, of which 1900 has been delivered to temporary storage site in Uxbridge. I'm seeing in the system 6 delivered on site at Exhibition and all installed. Either they're doing a trial or the tracker is not up to date.

At Exhibition the area East of portal is supposed to be the storage area with a gantry crane to feed the liner segments to the TBMs. But for now there seems to be a delay and they are using mobile crane as a temporary solution.

This would mean that the TBM has already dug 20-plus metres to get at least the cutterhead and shield in far enough to expose enough much of the excavated material to put a ring into place.

I suppose that's possible, but that does seem awfully quick and early to me, considering that they only did the ribbon cutting a week ago, and there was some thought (by yourself?) that they weren't going to start the dig in earnest for a number of weeks still.

The TBM is making its first pushes off of a launching frame (you can see it in some of Kotsy's drone shots, it's the large white steel bracing just behind the shield) so after they push off that, they can install the first ring. So technically, they may have been able to install a ring without actually breaking through the shaft wall into the ground if there was enough distance between the cutterhead and the wall

The rings are installed behind the TBM, not ahead of it.
