So many people here are willing to exonerate this developer with all the knowledge of what's going on out in the open. This project has been plagued with poor planning of permit acquisitions, financing scandals, etc. How am I doing as a devil's advocate? Seriously, I am not taking sides. I am...

I respectfully disagree. You don't even get to start a project like this without having a fierce fighting spirit. However, sometimes that same spirit, and unwillingness to give up, and cut losses, leads to a disastrous eventuality. I'm not saying that is the case, here, but it may very well be.

    I don't think Sam's taking car trade-ins just yet.

I'm pretty sure that when I first heard about this project, it was said to cost about $1 billion to build.

I expect them to complete one floor per week once they get going.

Wow! Already signs of the next floor going up. They'll top out by Christmas! :p

Great idea! We could charge a fee for live streaming to watch people roast like ants under a magnifying glass!

Maybe the builder can erect a large mirror and redirect the sun's rays during the time that a shadow is cast on the park. You know--vaporizing whoever is in the park at that time, and thereby eliminating any complaints.

"It is incredibly disappointing that this group of employees wants to hold hostage millions (if not billions) of dollars’ worth of construction, much of which involves critical infrastructure, because they are prepared to go on strike to get what they want." -- Devil's Advocate

You'd think opposition parties might have something to say about it. But, again, I think it's essentially a nothingburger.

My interest in housing development/issues waned somewhat some time ago, but from what I understand, strikes, today, do not last more than two weeks, which pretty much make them inconsequential, and therefore "unnewsworthy". In the old days, a strike could go on for months. That got people's...

Labour strikes aren't unique. Material price increases aren't unique. While COVID is kind of unique, disasters of various types do occur. I may have been a little harsh in my previous comment, but one should plan not only for known unknowns, but also for unknown unknowns. Okay, that was my...

How? Because none of this is unique. It's business as usual. Anyone who didn't budget for increases is a fool. “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” -- Winston Churchill.

I haven't paid attention in a very long time, but back in the day, trade strikes were merely a formality, with most of them settling right away. Occasionally, there'd be one or two holdouts. Projects would continue on as much as they could until the "absentees" returned. Have things changed?

Excellent vantage point! This perspective would be increasingly lovely as "our" tower, rises slowly, but majestically, to dwarf the buildings around it.

"Still" can, in fact, mean "quiet" in English.
