    Toronto | Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Walked through Union Station the other day and hadn't read this thread in a while. I can't believe that there is a Dental Office in the primary mall area. I could understand it on the second floor or above, but massive walk-past traffic for a dental office... that is a bad sign for how the...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

It is almost like they created a Red Team and a Blue Team at Metrolinx. One team was given Caledonia GO Station to Line 5, the other team was given Bloor connection to Line 2, challenged the two teams in a race... but both teams conceded defeat.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It should be in Leaside Yard. It is 3km further but has much more expandability and potential tie-ins with Ontario Line facilities. At 60km/h it is a 3 minutes away... surely they could figure out how to have a train leave 3 minutes earlier to arrive at Union to load passengers on time.

    Metrolinx: Finch West LRT

I like the Flexity Freedom design more. It seems more modular and the doors are spaced out more evenly.

Hehe, C Major and it is played with 3.5 whole notes in the ever popular 10/15 time. I feel like they did miss a note.

    London, ON

I grew up in London. The LTC isn't that bad, but could use more bus priority features. Other than the trails along the Thames River biking is pretty scary in London. Cars in London tend not to expect pedestrians or bikes. In downtown Toronto it is natural to look for pedestrians before...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Crazy to think of all the places where a tunnel was a good idea but a bridge was built instead forcing a climb up 2 storeys and 2 two storeys, and here we have one of the very few situations where a bridge might offer pedestrian travel distance benefits and a tunnel was selected (gradual slope...

    Toronto | Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Agreed. Putting bushes between the trail and the tracks would greatly reduce pedestrians, and making the tracks run through grass would stop the drivers.

    Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

They had already completed an RFP and Ellis Don, Grascan, and Kenaidan went into the final round. When the date came to choose Metrolinx decided put the project "under review with different procurement options being assessed before proceeding to market." It was already in market at that...

    Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Nothing is happening with Caledonia GO and since they did the RFP and decided to go a different direction I don't expect it to occur for a while. They still have the preliminary work of the Eglinton Ave road bridge replacement that has no contract in place.

With a Danish Pastry House in Union Station already... is anyone really waiting for Cinnabon? Seems like a place with Ruth's Chris waiting for Kelsey's.

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

Metrolinx took over transit of regional significance. Local buses, streetcars, bike lanes.... that is for the city. If the city can't pay for the local services required to service the port lands they aren't setting development charges and property taxes appropriately.

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Many of the things that look undone are either protective covers or places where panels hang with the supporting frames already in place.

    Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I agree that the first two components make sense. Lift the segments from truck onto the SPMT using a gantry crane on rails, and drive the loaded SPMT down to the end of the already completed bridge. That part keeps working without any repetitive tear down and rebuild. The part that seems...

TTC: Automatic Train Control and Subway Platform Screen Doors

That is an absolutely appalling statement to make. Someone should take out public service advertisements: "Don't ride the TTC alone... TTC's lawyer says you should know that is inherently unsafe". I didn't know I wasn't supposed to ride without a guard with me. I'm a little concerned that...

    Toronto | GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I don't really get this bridge installation method. I understand the first gantry crane on rail combo that unloads from truck and puts it up on the first part of the bridge, but from there it seems like the final lift into place via the launcher requires some rather permanent structures rather...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I think there is a discussion to be had about appropriate seat width and pitch and how perhaps for these considerations they should size seats so that the likelihood of someone not fitting in a standard seat is unlikely (i.e. <5% or even more) and provide for a way to convert standard seats into...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

What keeps happening to the new station RFPs? First the Caledonia GO station RFP went out, came back, and stalled. Now it seems Smart Track stations supposedly went to RFP but they are nowhere to be found. I don't get how Metrolinx keeps mentioning new Toronto station RFPs but they never...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Supposedly it will be between 5 and 8 Billion dollars. The 407 (provincial portion) was about $3B ($1.6B phase 1, $1.2B phase 2) which included 412 and 418. Never understood 418... why not upgrade 115 to 415... but anyways.

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

Those pre-customs machines have been there for years now. Did they do a software version upgrade that has way more questions, are the machines breaking down, or is there just way more people than before COVID? I used these machines in early 2020... and I think even before that. For NEXUS...
