GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

‘Tummy room’ was alright. Of course the person on the aisle would have to get up if the person on the window needed to leave. They also got rid of the armrest at seats with a table. They weren’t at every seat, so passengers could sit at a space without one. I don’t think people really cared much...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

They did. They were removed for safety reasons after one of those collisions in California, I believe, showed they caused serious injury. A new table design was devised that is designed to deform and absorb the impact of the body in a collision. I’m actually surprised to see Vancouver still has...

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

I commuted on the 36 regularly from end to end for four years. I gotta say, it’s not as many people going to the subway as you think. There appeared to be a lot of trips where the destination was either at a north-south street or connecting bus route. Lots of people going home from school or...

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Even other cities in North America seem to have figured out how to run grade-separated and street-running light rail together.

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Extension (Proposed)

TYSSE and SSE show us we will choose the most expensive deep boring option.

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

The glass train shed is increasingly looking more dirty. Wasn’t this thing supposed to clean itself or be cleaned regularly?

    Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

After the provincial announcement of the 7th wave I have seen an uptick in people wearing masks on transit in the GTA.

TTC: Electric and alternative fuel buses

This is a cool concept that has been explored in the US. Now MTB Transit Solutions is offering a conversion service to battery-electric. The process takes about six months and is supposed to cost up to half as much as a brand new electric bus. The bus on display was formerly a Hamilton bus...

    Toronto | Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Just curious: why is the one bridge yellow?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

WEGO is operated jointly by Niagara Falls Transit and the Niagara Parks Commission. The Green route uses buses leased to and operated by the Parks Commission, while the rest of the routes use buses owned and operated by Niagara Falls Transit.

    Toronto | 16 York | 154.83m | 32s | Cadillac Fairview | a—A

Anyone know what happened to the GO Transit sculpture? It’s been covered in plastic and tape for a number of weeks.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Saw this last weekend too. Traffic is so bad on Lakeshore, GO cancelled service to Union and rerouted the buses.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

GO Transit really has an aversion to serving their Toronto stations with buses. Even during disruptions they just assume everyone can take the TTC and go straight to the 905. This is also frustrating during late night Train-Bus service.

    Intercity Bus Services

I wouldn’t call a 40 minute walk walking distance. Bayly Street is also very pedestrian unfriendly.

Even 12 car trains would be nice. I still don’t know why this hasn’t been done.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Not related to Ion, but maybe this thread can become a general Waterloo transit thread or this post can be moved. GRT will be taking six 40-foot battery electric buses from Nova next year with five more the following year...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I have to say, despite the good $10/15 deal to Niagara Falls, the chaotic service stories have made me avoid it so far. A packed train and long lineups doesn’t sound appealing to me.

Typically cutaway buses. Like for Wheel-Trans.

TTC: Electric and alternative fuel buses

Not for the TTC, but still in Toronto. The Island Airport will be getting six battery-electric midibuses (28-30 foot) for their shuttle. https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/electric-shuttle-buses-coming-to-billy-bishop-toronto-city-airport-ytz-in-2023-847922545.html

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The TTC could at least start to have a basic security presence. Like I said last week: a year of riding the TTC regularly and I’ve see zero security or enforcement staff. That would go a long way to at least make people feel safe to ride the system.
